We offer a range of clinics and services at the surgery. There are some tasks you can do, such as health reviews, using our online forms.
Appointments are needed for all clinics and services offered by the practice. Please ask at reception for details.
Hearing aid clinic
(Currently suspended)
The Gloucestershire Deaf Association has offered the practice use of one of their technicians, on hopefully, a regular basis. The technician is offering hearing aid cleaning, re-tubing and batteries.
The clinic is held on the 4th Thursday of every other month between 3pm and 5pm.
This is not for patients who want a new hearing aid or who are having problems with their hearing – please book to see the GP in the usual way.
Please make an appointment with reception for your free hearing aid check.
Midwife bookings
Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has developed a new maternity booking system for people who are newly pregnant or have moved into the area and would like to access community midwifery services in Gloucestershire.
The new process has been designed to improve ease of access to maternity services and prevent any delays in accessing midwifery care. You can access the booking page by visiting www.gloshospitals.nhs.uk/your-first-midwife-appointment.
Child health care
Children can be seen by any of the doctors for child development checks and routine immunisations, which are given by the practice nurse. The health visitor is no longer based at the surgery unfortunately. If you need advice from the health visiting team, you can contact them directly on 0300 421 8018 for guidance for the under-fives.
Immunisations
Routine immunisations against diptheria, tetanus, whooping cough (pertussis), polio, Hib, measles, mumps, rubella and meningitis are all encouraged and available at the surgery. If you have any queries about any of the childhood immunisations, the health visitor will be happy to help.
Disease management
Patients with chronic diseases such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diabetes, hypertension (high blood pressure) and coronary heart disease are invited to attend for regular check ups to ensure optimum health. We also have special facilities for investigations particularly for heart and eye diseases.
If you have been advised by the surgery to submit an annual health review, please visit our online forms page.
Health promotion
NHS Health checks are done by our treatment room team and include measurement of blood pressure, cholesterol, weight, dietary and lifestyle advice. Our health promotion programme identifies patients whom doctors feel are at risk of ill health and these individuals will be invited to attend the surgery.
Cervical smear tests
Our computerised system will invite you regularly for smear tests. Please mention you are having this test when you book an appointment, so that we may book the appropriate amount of time with the nurse.
Family planning
All the partners provide a full range of family planning services. Advice is given during normal morning and evening surgeries. If you require emergency contraception please inform the receptionist so that we may fit you in with the nurse or doctor on the same day.
If you have been advised by the surgery to submit a contraceptive pill review, please complete our contraceptive pill review form.
Foreign travel
(Currently suspended)
Immunisations may be arranged with the practice nurse.
If you are travelling abroad, please make sure you complete our travel risk assessment form in plenty of time to arrange any vaccinations that may be necessary. To help the travel nurses assess your travel needs it is important that they are in receipt of the assessment form before your appointment.
Minor surgery
The doctor will ask you to make a special appointment if you have a problem that requires minor surgery.
Painswick pharmacy
As well as being able to dispense prescription medication and providing over the counter medication for you to buy, you may be interested to know that Painswick pharmacy offers a number of extra services over and above that of the ‘usual’ pharmacy. They have been given the status of a ‘healthy living pharmacy’ from Public Health, Gloucestershire. They can offer assistance with advice on lifestyle behaviours, such as smoking, diet, healthy eating, alcohol, weight management, cancer awareness etc. They can refer patients onto other services such as free sessions at Slimming World, onward referrals to Turning Point, the sexual health clinic or to the GP where necessary.
Painswick pharmacy has had to go through the appropriate training and accreditation to offer these services and has now been awarded HLP status.
Painswick pharmacy also has an in-house smoking cessation advisor – please ring them directly if you would like to book an appointment to see them for help with stopping smoking on 01452 812263.
